Plato refers to him as the founder of the cherished, revered and most prestigious medicine of the ancestors of Greeks, and puts him on a par with God Zalmoxis. Jamblichus and Porphyry still interpret the widespread Pythagorean folklore, already one thousand-year-old in the times of such followers of Origen, the heresyarch. On our side, Saint Basil the Great writes about Abaris from Cappadocia the microasiatic Dacia - to his brother Gregory, asking true Christians to study such famous ancients. There also are some celtic references to a certain Abaris, proof of something deeper in the Cimmerian tradition. But who is Abaris the Hyperborean ? Ethnically, traditionally, medically, here I try to look into the larger context of the question.
